Back to Basics, a local non-profit community organization founded by Andrew Miller, is dedicated to implementing creative solutions for the challenges we face in society. The group strives to bring a sense of community to our daily lives by focusing on local solutions to hunger and ensuring access to basic necessitites. The goal? To provide food, water, shelter and education to everyone, regardless of their situation in life. Back to Basics currently operates ten charity gardens throughout the city of Barrie in addition to over-seeing a local bio-diesel cooperative. The Green Team arm of the organization offers emission-free lawn-care and bike courier services in the downtown and central areas of the city; free quotes are available by appointment. New this summer are the Go Green Youth Summer Day Camp, Unity Studios and Market at 25 Toronto Street and proposed youth transitional housing and educational programming also in the downtown core.
